When I get stressed, I need to be by myself. In college, I would stay up late Friday nights doing what college students do on Friday nights, but on Saturday mornings I'd get up as soon as I could, eat breakfast, and get away from everyone. I'd hole up at a cafe or in the library and crank out as much homework as I could that morning. When I got through the hardest assignments, I'd each lunch and then do another few hours of work. My goal was to have a free Sunday. Just one day out of the week that would be free. I would dream about playing basketball or going shopping or just doing nothing. I used those day dreams to motivate to finish all the hard work on Saturdays.
I'm not sure why, but being by myself allowed me the space to think clearly and to really get into the material. Sometimes, when I was stuck, I'd write in my journal about stuff that was freaking me out--relationships, friends, family--and then sit down to do homework. That journal probably saved me. I could be crazy in that journal. I could be angry as hell, so sad, heart-broken. It was where I felt like I could be me. Now that I think about it, I sometimes spent an entire Saturday morning writing in my journal just to get my head clear enough to do the homework that needed to be finished by Monday morning.
Maybe that journal helped me in a couple of ways. I wrote out all the stuff that was swirling around in my head, the drama, the boredom, the ideas that got me fired up. School fired me up, and I liked that. The one thing I also wrote were all the things I needed to get done. By the time I finished writing in that journal, I had met a therapist, gotten in touch with myself again, and created a list of everything that I needed and wanted to do. If I was really on the ball, I'd prioritize that list. An "A" would mean it had to be done that Saturday. If I didn't finish it, I couldn't go out. A "B" meant it needed to be done by Sunday night. A "C" by the following week. Of course, major projects and other papers would start as a "C" and eventually become an "A" if I didn't slowly work on it piece-by-piece, but at least I knew it was coming. I guess I did have a method to deal with the stress and the work and now it sounds kind of boring, but when I was writing in that journal, it felt important, like my life and sanity depended on those pages.

Sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated in school because there’s so much work involved. At times I feel exhausted. There are times when I feel like I should give up because it’s not worth the effort. Then I realized that it is worth the effort because having a college degree will help you succeed.
I do many things to keep me motivated. I go on long walks to clear my mind, and I listen to music when I’m feeling discouraged. The music helps me to relax. When I have a lot on my mind I write in my journal because it helps me express myself. I can say whatever I want in my journal. There are no limits. Also, I like to call my family and talk to them because they encourage me. They tell me I can do anything I want to, and they provide me with useful advice. Additionally, I visualize what I want my life to be like in the future, and I strive to achieve my goals. I plan on being healthier, wiser, and more responsible. Someday I want a career that will make a difference in the world. I stay motivated because I know that one day I’ll be successful.
Sandra Santos-Cruz I haven’t been for a long time at college level classes, thus I cannot recall my most important aspects of distraction, but I do think about the things that would serve as a motivation for it. As a student, I have learned how to manage my time and how to control my activities, some of them I have made positive, such as writing, sports or social gatherings.
Whenever I feel too pressured by my work, I tend to write, write and write as much as possible. I have adapted writing as a method to heal my mind and by doing so I learned how to express any kind of thought or arrange them to understand my work. I write about anything that comes to my mind, sometimes I distract myself by just writing about my dreams or any childhood anecdote. Not only does writing helps me release stress, it also expands my vocabulary and the quality of my work.
The most important thing that has made my school work successful is the activities and interaction among others. I have used my social skills to release stress and use it as a motivation, for example, I try to join clubs, extra-curricular activities or others. But the most important it has been the use of sports. I started doing sports and joining clubs setting conditions to myself, I had to had good grades in order to join or do any kind of activity; it as a motivation not a punishment. I learned from my family that anything we wish to do is because we deserve it, and before doing anything else, I need to set up all my priorities.

I think what keeps me motivated is my determination and inner strength that I'm discovering about myself. Life puts us up to certain challenges and hardships that test our characters, so we can find out how strong we really are. Me personally I know I’ve been tested in many different ways and I've gained an inner strength and determination that I didn't know I had. I also have a faith in God that tells me that I am destined for something better that I never thought of. I know where i want to go in my life, but whether God chooses to take me there or someplace else I have no control over.
What also keeps me motivated are my great friends. I am lucky to have the friends I have because finding really good friends that you know will be there for you no matter what and will love you regardless of what kind of mess you've made. Friendship is one of the most important things you can have and to give to someone else.
Family without saying keeps me motivated because when no one else is there for you your family should be there for you. Your family should be there cheering you on even when it looks like your losing. Family is important because they are the ones that will be in your corner no matter what.

I feel that when I have a lot of things going thru my mind I just can’t get anything done. So when I’m feeling this way I try to talk to someone about how I am feeling and I can’t talk to someone I just start to write down how I am feeling. When I start to write it can take me hours to write down everything I am feeling and won’t stop till I feel that my mind is clear enough to focus on just one topic. They way that this helps me is because sometimes if I want to talk to someone sometimes I can’t express how I really want to so when I write I can write as if I was happy, mad, yelling, crying or just whatever mood I am in. Writing how I feel helps me express myself more. The person who most motivates me now is my son. Before I just didn’t care about writing or just didn’t care about school. Now I feel that I have more interest in school, getting my work done and coming to school. I also feel that my writing has gotten way better that before. He motivates me because I know that if I get my education I will give him a good life because I can get a better job if go to school and get a career.

For me motivation is a force of energy leading me to my destination. My children are definitely motivating factors in my life. In my first semester of school, I was like, damn; I have to take English all over again from scratch but the semester is over and I managed to get through it with the type of motivation that I have. I thought that the articles that we read in class really kept me busy and just to know that I have some responsibility outside of the home, is very motivating because I like to get things done. English 269A really has helped me in being a better writer and I'm now prepared for the next level of English which is very motivating. Completing any task that I have is motivating because it shows me that the sky is the limit for me. To see others do good is motivating for me. I'm not competing against anyone particular but there is a scripture that reads 'compete towards all that is good'; so when I see someone doing good, that puts me on my toes to even perform as equally or better as the next person. For me school has never been more exciting to me. I guess that I understand what I'm doing now. School was always a burden on me back in the day. When a person looks forward to coming to school everyday, that is a big thing and very motivating for me. Motivation also feeds off good energy to the extent where a complete stranger could motivate you and you as the student did not even know where that motivation came from. Motivation is a powerful force that brings meaning and assures me of my faith. Written by Aminah AKA eye_C_US

Which did happen so I made sure I stay on top off my work for me focus is the key, it provides the motivation.
